These Chinese military cadets showed they have a lot of bottle after being ordered to march and stand to attention with half filled bottles of water on their heads.
And although it may look comical, military chiefs say there is no better way to make sure the students march in an orderly manner and stand to attention properly without fidgeting.
The pictures in this case show students of the Zhengzhou Institute of Aeronautical Industry Management pictured during their compulsory military training, where the plastic water bottles were placed on their heads during marching and while standing to attention.
The military training class is a mandatory lesson taken by first year university students across China, and the idea of using partially filled water bottles were introduced after complaints that students were slouching and not alert enough.
Trainer Lok Liao said: “They are not allowed to use their hands and anybody that drops the bottle gets punished. Once they have cleaned the toilets a few times or been forced to go on extra long hike in the rain they soon learn to pay more attention to not dropping the water bottle.”
The institute located in Zhengzhou city in central Chinas Henan Province said it wanted to emphasise to students the importance of bodily discipline and poise during military training classes, and as a result hundreds of freshmen were asked to march balancing the wobbling water bottles.
Lok Liao said: “The class is not just about teaching them basic survival skills and weapons training, it is also about training physical and mental disciplines.”
